Soul/Funk duo Silver Skylarks have just released their new single “Power Moves” via Skylark Soul Co. The track features the Austin-based singing duo US! (Uncle Roy and Spice) as well the guitar work of Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), and is the lead single from Silver Skylarks’ debut album The Number One Set and Sound which is out May 3rd, 2024.
Also included with the original version and radio mix, Silver Skylarks have released a re-edit of “Power Moves” featuring Hip-Hop artist Kool G Rap.
Silver Skylarks’ Danny Balis shares a bit more info on this track:
The demo of this song was intended to be emblematic of a ’70s car chase scene out of “The Streets of San Francisco,” but Skin [Wade] had other ideas. Very good ideas. What once would have been Blaxploitation background music took a major left turn by adding Jordache Grant’s incredible Moog and Clavinet play, Adrian Quesada’s signature guitar figures and wah expertise, and by far my favorite David Pierce horn arrangement. Austin-based singing duo US! absolutely smashes this jam with a vocal hook that evolves this tune into B-boy territory. And no matter what, I’ll never stop reimagining the bass line from James Brown’s ‘Get Up/Sex Machine.’ It’s the combustible engine of grooves.
Jeff “Skin” Wade says about the new project:
Danny was in a prolific mode of song-writing and just cranking out one killer demo after another. It was obvious to me that he was on a vibe deviating from what we were doing with Bastards of Soul and could easily lead to a separate project/sound more aligned with what I used to search for in my old hip-hop/beat-digging days.

On the album, special guests and contributors include Adrian Quesada (Black Pumas), Rapper/Producer Large Professor (Nas, Tribe Called Quest), Grammy-winner Mark Lettieri, and Robert Ellis, as well as a very special contribution from the legendary DOC (Dr Dre, Snoop Dogg), just to name a few.
