Indie Folk band The Ballroom Thieves, including Calin Peters (vocals, cello, bass) and Martin Earley (vocals, guitar), have announced their spring headline tour, starting on April 25, 2024 at The Sultan Room in Brooklyn and making stops in Nashville at The Basement, Boston at The Sinclair, and more, before wrapping up in Northampton at Iron Horse Music Hall on June 2.
The Ballroom Thieves are also celebrating the announcement with their second single, “Tender” from their upcoming record, Sundust, out April 12, 2024. “Tender” is “an ode to the importance of creating space within a song.”
Martin shares:
We were listening to the band Watchhouse at the Newport Folk Festival in 2022, and their sparse instrumentation and fluid melodies inspired me to start writing ’Tender’ right on the spot. We learn a lot from our peers, and in this case, the lesson was about the importance of creating space for your songs to breathe so you can hear what’s happening between the notes.
As The Ballroom Thieves wrote and recorded their upcoming album, one central question emerged as the theme: “What if we could all just be a little more tender?” The duo started to ponder what they could do “to be more self-aware of their mental health and of those around them in a world oversaturated by social media, pop-culture, and digital consumption.”
In response, Sundust is a 10-track “collection of thoughts on the human experience.”
Peters comments:
This group of songs is a self-portrait of our intertwined lives.
