West Virginia native and Americana-leaning Singer/songwriter Christian Lopez has announce his debut Grand Ole Opry performance set for January 27, 2024. The announcement follows the release of Lopez’ deeply personal record Magdalena. The artist has also teased that a new single, titled “I’m Not Alone”, will be arriving on January 26th, 2024.
Lopez shares about his latest album, Magdalena:
The universe has a way of peeling back the layers to either break us down or give us clarity. It was a year ago this past April that I lost my little brother to a fentanyl overdose in West Virginia, and it’s been a year since I married the love of my life. I’ve felt love and loss that I never would’ve expected this early in my journey, but now as I get older, my only goal is to leave behind the purest form of what I can do and give. This album is just that.. no frills, no cowrites, no studio band, no compromises.. Just me.
The singer/songwriter has spent the last two years in a small New Mexican town called Magdalena writing and recording in an adobe casita. The album was recorded with the help of British Producer Robert Adam Stevenson, who also produced Lopez’s last project The Other Side (2021), and drummer Carl Thomson.
Lopez’s initial work on the album was interrupted in April 2022 when his younger brother tragically overdosed on fentanyl in his hometown of Martinsburg, West Virginia.
Heartbroken, Lopez shifted his outlook “to leave something real behind.. “ Magdalena digs deep and pares things down to Lopez’s most direct songwriting for that reason.
