Austin-based singer-songwriter Ruthie Foster has shared a live rendition of “What Kind of Fool,” a highlight taken from her album Healing Time. Recorded at The Haute Spot in Cedar Park, Texas, the new live release arrives following Foster’s 2024 Grammy nomination for Healing Time, which is up for Best Contemporary Blues Album. This marks her fifth career Grammy nomination to date and she is a multiple Blues Music Award winner.

Foster explains:

‘What Kind of Fool’ says and relays my influence and my experience with love. Love lost, love realized, and more importantly where I stand and where I refuse to stand anymore with love. I related to this song incredibly because I’d been there personally. The song was brought to me via my friend/bandmate Hadden Sayers. I decided to fly him and my keys player Scottie Miller down to Austin for a writing session for the new album, Healing Time. Hadden brought the bulk of the song to me and Scottie. We all managed to hash out the rest of the song together.

As an album, Healing Time focuses on “love, wisdom and life experience.”

Last Fall, Foster was honored at Austin’s Paramount Theatre with a star on the sidewalk of the historic venue, becoming only the sixth artist to do so and joining Lyle Lovett and Delbert McClinton.
