Hailing from Knoxville, Tennessee, Folk-Country duo The Montvales have announced upcoming album Born Strangers, arriving February 2nd, 2024. The pair consists of Sally Buice and Molly Rochelson, and they’ve set out to create a “collection of songs for these uncertain times” which includes raising questions in their lyrics. Album single “Lou” is out now.

Born Strangers takes the duo a step into new territory with a full band of Nashville musicians; a departure from Heartbreak Summer Camp, The Montvales’ 2019 album that reunited the duo after Buice and Rochelson moved apart for some time.

The new direction was aided by producer Mike Eli LoPinto (guitarist for Chris Stapleton and co-writer and producer of Emily Nenni’s “On the Ranch”) who assembled a roster of session players at sound engineer Sean Sullivan’s Tractor Shed Studio.

The song “Lou” is a “meditation on the future of public lands” seen through the eyes of Buice’s baby niece.

Buice, who has a part-time job as a wrangler on a southern Colorado ranch, says:

I bear witness as people fall in love with the land. This song is about my obstinate hope that we can hold onto and protect that deep connection.

The Montvales are currently playing and have a number of dates in January 2024.
