John-Robert’s ‘Garden Snake’ EP Is A Virginia Record Made In LA

Singer/songwriter John-Robert has announced his upcoming EP Garden Snake. A collection of songs that recall his musical roots and combining acoustic Folk and Pop, Garden Snake is set to be released on December 8th via Nice Life. Lead single “Sweet Child” is out now.

John-Robert shares about the new EP:

It’s a return to form inspired by my musical upbringing in Virginia. This project feels the most like myself, and the songs feel lived in. While the writing process was me grieving the loss of a previous relationship; the recording process was a celebration of all the new ones.

He describes lead single “Sweet Child”:

Post-breakup sentiments, but performed at a house show. I was failing to give new relationships a chance because it didn’t look exactly like my previous one. I want people to dance while still being able to confess that I was having a hard time moving on.

John-Robert will be celebrating the release of his new EP with a special release show on December 8th at Genghis Cohen in Los Angeles.

John-Robert left his Edinburg, Virginia, hometown for Los Angeles in 2019, and soon started working with Grammy-nominated producer Ricky Reed (Leon Bridges, Lizzo) at Nice Life/Warner Records as he blended traditional Folk and Appalachian Country into the modern Pop landscape.

The EP represents a healing exercise for the 23-year-old songwriter, conjuring his home region where he spent the pandemic period.

He adds:

Garden Snake is a time capsule. It was like trying to make a Virginia record in LA. I’m really proud of myself for seeing it through. It was character building, but I proved to myself I could make it out the other side. It’s something no one can take away from me.
