Austin-based singer/songwriter John Baumann’s new album Border Radio arrives on October 6th, 2023, and he has recently announced new tour dates throughout Texas and beyond. The title track is out now and hints at the wider sweep of the album, a collection of vignettes from across Texas.
Border Radio marks Baumann’s fourth solo release, in addition to the two he’s released with The Panhandlers, along with Josh Abbott, William Clark Green and Cleto Cordero (of Flatland Cavalry). More than any other previous album, Baumann focuses on storytelling for Border Radio.
As a fifth generation Texan and a self-proclaimed “geographical songwriter,” Baumann often uses the Lone Star State as the canvas for his writing.
He says:
Border Radio is simply a collection of colors and vignettes from San Antonio and Hill Country down to the border. In the words of Steinbeck, Texas is obsession, the proper study. I hope the listener can transport themselves out of their lives and go somewhere else in a cinematic way. I hope listening to this album is like going to the movies. It’s about experiencing something else, somewhere else.

Tour Dates:
October 17 – Odessa, TX – Odessa Marriott
October 24 – Nashville, TN – 3rd & Lindsley
October 27 – Washington, DC – Pearl Street Warehouse
October 29 – Dunn, NC – Bird’s Nest Listening Room
