Canadian singer Dominique Fils-Aimé has released the first chapter of her new trilogy, Our Roots Run Deep via Ensoul Records. The artist frames her latest album with “a loose, dreamlike narrative structure that tells a story of growth,” often anchoring in the natural world.

Fils-Aimé shares:

Just as we cannot see the mycorrhizal network that allows trees in a forest to communicate with each other underground. I believe our souls do the same and that music can be a fertilizer for this invisible communication network.

Recorded and mixed at Opus Studios in Dolby Atmos Surround Sound by producer Jacques Roy, Our Roots Run Deep the album follows a path that leads to “myriad human challenges and forms of interference,” but “an underlying life force presses on.”

Our Roots Run Deep is an album that can be played from start to finish to follow an organic sequence. This “style of continuity” allows the audience “time and space to sink into” the artist’s world on their own journey.

The artist’s album Stay Tuned! won the 2020 JUNO Award for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year as well as the Félix prize for Best Jazz Album at the 2019 ADISQ Gala, was shortlisted for the Polaris Music Prize and featured among the 19 best Canadian albums of 2019 by CBC.
