No Sailor Features Philadelphia Indie Musicians In Video For “Rock, Paper, Scissors”

Indie Folk Rock outfit No Sailor recently released the single, “Rock, Paper, Scissors” and have now revealed the accompanying video. To celebrate the release of both, the Kieran Garvey fronted band will headline Ortlieb’s in Philadelphia on June 24th The video was directed by Kirby Sybert, shot at Philly’s beloved Fergie’s Pub and features a cast of local, independent musicians in acting roles.

The single is the second from their forthcoming debut album, Anchor Broken Free due in late 2023. In addition to Garvey, No Sailor includes musicians Morgan Pinkstone (vocals, tambourine), John Hildenbrand (piano), Minnie Jordan (violin), Erik Kramer (upright bass), and Keaton Thandi (drums).

Garvey explains:

We chose Fergie’s because it’s one of the coziest spots we know, and we’ve spent many a night there—on stage and off. It was just the setting we felt the song needed. The song is a waltz, and the melodies have an Irish feel to them, which is my heritage too. So yeah, Fergie’s Irish Pub was the perfect choice.

The music video follows two foolish men who think they can decide the destiny of a woman with a childish game, only to learn how powerless they truly are. Not only was the setting great, but the characters were wonderfully portrayed by our fellow musician friends: Davis, Jordan, Mariah, and Jane.

“Rock, Paper, Scissors” also features the work of Ian Gillies (director of photography), Kara Garvey (production, costumes), and Kieran Garvey (editing, color).

No Sailor is made up of songwriter Kieran Garvey and his five-piece folk band. Formed while Garvey was living abroad in Europe, he refined a collection of songs in small cafes and clubs before eventually bringing them home. Later this year they are releasing their debut album, Anchor Broken Free, with tales of “codependent romance, spoiled love, and the absurdities of dating.”

Recorded over two years, and in three countries, including Slovenia, Scotland, and America, the album was carefully crafted with Glasgow producer Paul Savage (Franz Ferdinand) and mastered by Brian Lucey (Arctic Monkeys) in Los Angeles.

No Sailor will simultaneously release a set of man-on-the-street videos of Kieran Garvey “out and about in Philadelphia, challenging unsuspecting locals to impromptu games of rock, paper, scissors.”
