Ron Gallo has released an “apocalyptic dance-punk” single, “At Least I’m Dancing”, the latest from his new studio album, Foreground Music, that will arrive March 3, 2023 on Kill Rock Stars. For the track, Gallo mentally “dances between hope and crisis, caring and apathy”.
The video released for the track follows an optimistic approach blending comedic dancing and social media imagery.
Gallo asks:
What else can you do? I don’t know where things are going, but I think the world is gonna be what we make it and so giving a shit is always a good choice. If that fails at least we will enjoy the last moments we have.
Gallo’s new album covers a lot of scenarios that will be relatable to modern life, from developers tearing down neighborhoods, to advertising, the plight of musicians, and apocalyptic anxieties. Sound-wise, the album plays with a full deck of influences and ideas from an DIY ethos, blending Rock, Punk, and singer/songwriter traditions with an irreverent attitude.
Lyrical approach and sound works together to, ultimately, suggest a hopeful position as we can find calm and optimism within ourselves, even if it seems far from obvious in the outer world.
