Gunner & Smith Goes Analog For ‘Hear You In My Head’

Americana Rock and Dark Country artist Geoff Smith, who operates as Gunner & Smith, has announced new album Hear You In My Head for September 2022. As a preview, he has released the single “Find Your Own Way”. The music of Gunner & Smith blends guitars and distinct Folk-family vocals to produce Rock anthems. The new album, however, was tracked in an analog way in Nashville under very different circumstances than previous albums.

Geoff Smith says about the single:

This is about growing up and understanding the world around me more fully and coming to terms with my relationship with my mother. About how your understanding of people and who they are fills out over time, but also is about the concern for my own legacy and impact.

After a decade of touring Canada and internationally including stops in the USA, Korea, Germany, and the UK, Gunner & Smith usually records close to home in Saskatchewan but the new album was created in a very different way. In August 2021, frontman Geoff Smith flew South to work with producer Andrija Tokic (Alabama Shakes, Benjamin Booker) and a collection of session musicians at the Bombshelter Studio in East Nashville.

Over the following six days at Tokic’s analog studio, Hear You in My Head was put to tape. The album was constructed around the rhythm section of Dave Raccine on drums and Jack Lawerence (The Greenhornes, The Raconteurs) on bass, combined with layers of sound including guitars, dobro, pedal steel, and fiddle created by multi-instrumentalist John James Tourville (The Deslondes) and meletrone, organs, and pianos played by Peter Keys (Lynyrd Skynyrd).
