Wallis Bird Explores The Right To Choose With “Aquarius”

Irish Born, Berlin-based songwriter Wallis Bird has shared “Aquarius,” the third single taken from Bird’s seventh studio album HANDS out May 27th, 2022. She sees “Aquarius” as a song about identity, “questioning the authority of control”.

Wallis Bird comments:

The simple chorus is basically my own origin story, but the verse is about having the right to choose your own choices, pretty fundamental stuff: euthanasia, abortion and Ireland’s Repeal the 8th movement, healthcare etc. These are really intricate things that became part of the big conversation about control and who controls what in life. We can’t choose where we were born, we can’t choose our situation, we weren’t asked to be born, it’s just the way it is.

“Aquarius” follows the release of singles “Power of the Word,”  “What’s Wrong with Changing” and “Pretty Lies.” Wallis tapped the Theodora Byrne Ensemble to create a music video for her song “What’s Wrong With Changing. The Theodora Byrne Ensemble is an Irish contemporary mixed-voice choir comprised of a collective of over 50 singers from various musical backgrounds.

Bird has released six albums since 2007, and HANDS finds Bird turning the spotlight onto herself, raising issues of “trust, alcohol abuse, stagnation, self-censorship and self-improvement”.
