Singer/songwriter, actor, and Tony Award-winning Broadway performer John Gallagher Jr. has announced his new EP, Almost OK, which will release on May 29th, 2026, through Grand Phony Music.
The artist, who is best known for his roles in Broadway’s Spring Awakening, American Idiot, and most recently as the lead in the Avett Brothers’ musical Swept Away, has also shared the lead single “Tough Spit.” The Power-Pop song “paints a playfully paranoid picture of the current state of America’s sociopolitical mediascape.”
Gallagher says:
I wrote ‘Tough Spit’ in one, maybe two sittings in 2024 while on tour for my last record. It started as a way to make myself chuckle and regulate the anxiety sparked by any attempt to consume even a spoonful of social media content. The song arrived in the form of an upbeat rock number full of winks and nods so I figured it would be a fun way to open shows but the audience quickly embraced it as something more than that. Once we finished the EP, ‘Tough Spit’ quickly emerged as the obvious candidate for a first single and I’m eager to share it with a new wave of listeners.
Almost OK is Gallagher’s first collection of brand new music since 2024’s autobiographical breakup record, Goodbye or Something.
He adds about the new album:
Almost OK fell into place with an easy quickness. For someone who has fretted and second guessed my way through recording albums in the past, it was a sweet relief to go into the studio with the band and have my first EP come together so organically. This record is a succinct snapshot of me in motion as I move from one place in time to another. I feel lucky it was captured at just the right moment.

Gallagher will hit the road this Spring in support of his new music with upcoming stops in Pittsburgh, Buffalo, Nashville, and Chicago among many others.
