A debut single has been released by Inner Magic, the new duo featuring Adam Miller and Jeff Schroeder who met in Los Angeles through friends in 2024. The two found commonality after both had departed their previous bands, Chromatics and Smashing Pumpkins, respectively. Bonding over their mutual love of Felt, the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, and Krautrock, the pair slowly set out writing music together throughout 2025.

The duo’s first single as Inner Magic is called Underground.” Ruth Radelet, former Chromatics singer and now solo artist, shares vocal duties with Adam. The music video for “Underground”, which is a montage shot in Los Angeles by Inner Magic and friends, recalls the heyday of British and American Indie scenes and was inspired by the early work of Echo and the Bunnymen.

For the b-side, the duo shares a cover of Spacemen 3’s “Feelin’ Just Fine.” The track also features back-up vocals from singer Olive Kimoto (Locust, Liquid Mirror on NTS Radio). Both tracks were produced by Jeff Schroeder and Adam Miller, mixed by Rick Parker (Lord Huron, BRMC), and mastered by Christopher Colbert.

Jeff Schroeder shares:

After leaving Smashing Pumpkins I felt I had reached the end of me working within the framework of a band. Finding true artistic chemistry with others has to happen naturally and can be rather elusive. Fortunately, this hasn’t been the case. Working with Adam over the last year has been one of the happiest musical periods of my life and I’m thrilled to begin sharing our music with others.

Adam Miller adds:

Collaborating with Jeff is like a musical conversation where we are continually bouncing and building ideas off of each other. We tend to spend just as much time drinking coffee, talking about books, and artists we love as we do working on music. But when we get to working, ideas quickly materialize out of thin air and the music that happens just feels right.
