Breakfield, the Nashville band formerly named Boy Named Banjo, has announces their new self-titled album, due out June 12, 2026 via Rounder Records. Produced by The 400 Unit’s Sadler Vaden (Jason Isbell, Beck, Morgan Wade), Breakfield finds the four-piece channeling a new sense of freedom.
The 11-song collection documents their breakthrough and reincarnation. Along with the news, Breakfield has shared their new single “Ever-Loving Mind,” which is “an ode to choosing your heart over your head.”
Vocalist and banjo player Barton Davies says on the new single:
The chorus of ‘Ever-Loving Mind’ says it all, ‘I don’t wanna think this through / I wanna dive in headfirst blind.’ We didn’t want to overthink this one in the studio. We knew we had to capture that live, raw energy, so we only gave ourselves one or two takes to put it down together. It’s not perfect, but we like it that way.
Vaden says about working with Breakfield:
When we started writing and working on this album, the only goal we had was getting back to the foundation of why they started playing music in the first place. The focus was put more on the songwriting and the strength of Barton and William’s voices rather than on dense production. The shared vision in recording was capturing live performances and letting the instrumentation breathe with as much space as possible. We were really inspired by albums by The Jayhawks, Ray Lamontagne, and even the Brad Cook-produced records coming out of North Carolina right now. This band really cares about being great songwriters and musicians, and anytime I’m around that energy, I can’t help but go all in and hopefully give them the best version of myself in the process.
Recorded in Nashville and mixed by multi-Grammy-winner Matt Ross-Spang (Margo Price, John Prine), Breakfield is a representation of the group’s energetic live performance, where they’ve performed on stage at festivals like Bonnaroo, at venues like the Grand Ole Opry, and sharing bills with the likes of Hank Williams Jr., the Cadillac Three and Old Crow Medicine Show.

While the new album includes a handful of songs co-written with Vaden, Breakfield also gathered a batch of never-released material, reimagining each tune through the lens of their new approach. Breakfield is the follow-up to the band’s 2023 LP Dusk.
