Minneapolis singer/songwriter David Huckfelt has shared his new song, “Chief Seattle’s Dream,” a “tribute and spiritual manifesto” from an artist who’s been an ally to and collaborator with Indigenous leaders from John Trudell to Winona LaDuke.
Huckfelt shares:
“Chief Seattle’s Dream” is the most important song I’ve written to date; I see it as a gift of gratitude to my Native friends & mentors.
Inspired by Chief Seattle’s 1854 speech, Huckfelt’s version “echoes the urgent need to protect the natural world and respect the interconnectedness of life.” Simnasho Warm Springs singer Quiltman (John Trudell, Jackson Browne, Bonnie Raitt) adds vocals as well.
Quiltman says:
I am very happy to put some vocals on David’s great song. I have family from Nisqually, Washington who are descendants of this great man. As this land is being terrorized and torn apart by this current government again, it is heartbreaking. But hearing this song this morning has brought some sunshine into my reality and I love David Huckfelt for snapping me back to a place of good and peacefulness.

The track will be featured in the season premiere of the AMC television series Dark Winds on February 15th, 2026. Dark Winds is a psychological thriller television series which blends “character-driven mysteries with exploration of Navajo culture, spirituality, and personal demons.”
Rick Clark, Music Supervisor for Dark Winds says:
David Huckfelt is a formidable truth teller whose songs are like dreamscape movies, illuminating a real place that was never taught in American History books. ‘Chief Seattle’s Dream’ embodies the best of these qualities.
Huckfelt’s latest album is I Was Born, But…, a collection of reimagined overlooked gems from some of American music’s most influential songwriters. Huckfelt will celebrate I Was Born, But… with a performance on February 19th in Minneapolis at Cedar Cultural Arts Festival.
He will also be a featured official showcase performer at South By Southwest Music Festival in Austin, TX this March. He has already begun Production on his next Don Giovanni Records release, a full record of original songs due out later this year.
Huckfelt is the founding frontman of Minneapolis Indie-Folk band The Pines.
