French multi-instrumentalist and producer Gautier Serre has been operating under the name Igorrr for 20 years now, and is getting ready to release his fifth album, Amen, which arrives September 19, 2025, via Metal Blade. The record features guest appearances from by Scott Ian (Anthrax), Trey Spruance (Mr. Bungle), and Mike Leon (Soulfly).

The single and video for “Headbutt” are out now.

The artist says about “Headbutt”:

Is the biggest fortissimo ever made on a piano bigger than heavy and massive metal riffs? The match between classical music and metal was very close, but the piano won with that final excavator uppercut. Starting with an ostinato that gives the pulse of the track and shows that the piano can also be a rhythmic instrument, we witness smart blows between both parties, going crescendo until the actual headbutt on the piano, which wasn’t even the strongest or last move from classical music.

Regarding the album Amen, he says:

This album is definitely darker than its predecessors, it has such a very weighty and solemn vibe that has never been reached before in Igorrr. The fact that I recorded a real choir in a church helped this a lot, but above all there has been very long and meticulous work on the sound and the choice of instruments, and deep experimental research to create a unique sound design. Of course, because it’s an Igorrr album, there are some more colorful tracks, like ‘Blastbeat Falafel,’ ‘ADHD…’ They contrast very much with the ambient heaviness. I need tracks like these on an album, it helps to really get through it fully focused, like a shot of limoncello before the next meal.

Igorrr will tour Europe this fall with Master Boot Record and Imperial Triumphant. The artist plans to return to the U.S. to play live in 2026.
