Los Angeles-based Pop-Punk band The Manic Standstill have released new single “Go Away,” a duet featuring Nicolette Vilar of the LA Pop-Punk band Go Betty Go.
“Go Away” finds vocalist/songwriter Adam Bones (Save Ferris, Richie Ramone, Josie Cotton, The Two Tens) teaming up with Vilar on a collaboration that began nearly a decade ago.
Bones says:
Nicolette’s idea for her and I to do a duet came up a long while ago. We tried once back then, but it didn’t really go anywhere. When The Manic Standstill’s album started coming together, I thought it was the perfect time to revisit it.
Bones unearthed an old demo “with a strong melody and structure but admittedly weak lyrics.”
He explains:
Nicolette liked the demo, and we both agreed it needed new words. Later, while hanging out with friends at her place, she came downstairs with a spark of inspiration, and we started writing right there on the spot.
The result is a song about “two people in a relationship—whether romantic, platonic, or familial—caught in the push-and-pull of adventure versus stability.”

The song’s accompanying video marks Adam Bones’ directorial debut, a performance video combined with real-life B-roll footage of he and Nicolette on tour when he filled in on guitar for Go Betty Go.
Produced and recorded by Bones and TMS drummer Brad Dickert at Brad’s Tacaboom Studios, “Go Away” follows the band’s previous singles “Reasons Why” and “Bulletproof,” leading to their upcoming full-length album, Moving, due later this year via Wiretap Records/Double Helix.
