Midwestern singer/songwriter Lissie has announced the Promises EP, due out August 22, 2025. Her first collection since 2022’s Carving Canyons album, the EP compiles a collection of cover songs that “speak her current emotional language and hold meaning to her life.” The Promises EP specifically features songs which offer “varying slants on the theme of a commitment.” Her take on The Pretenders’ classic “I’ll Stand By You” is out now.

We all go through phases & stages and music is such a gift for processing life events!

I sang ‘I’ll Stand By You’ to my husband, Mike, at our wedding reception so it’s taken on such a special meaning. It always makes me think about the promise I made that day.

The song is accompanied by a video which is compiled from submissions from fans. It’s a “celebration of love in all of its forms, from marriage and parenthood to family and friendships through to pets.” It is capped by brief footage of Lissie’s own wedding.

Outside of her records, Lissie made a show-stealing performance of “Wild West” in David Lynch’s Twin Peaks: The Return, and played a musician enduring an awkward relationship with Ron Livingstone’s music critic lead character in the third season of the cult comedy-drama Loudermilk. She lives in north-east Iowa, where she manages and conserves the 45-acre site around her home.
