The Collect Pond’s “Disassociating (Cigarette Dress)” Is About Quiet Quitting At Work

Post-Punk Rock band, The Collect Pond have announced their new album Lightbreaker to be released on September 27th, 2024. As a preview they have released the first single, “Disassociating (Cigarette Dress)”.

The band says of the album and single:

Lightbreaker finds us with finally enough studio time and ability to do ten songs on an album. The new songs are a post-punk journey about such topics as having trouble loading programs on a new computer “Necessary Driver” to quiet quitting at work “Disassociating (Cigarette Dress), to escaping impending doom “Lightbreaker (Ladder).

The Collect Pond is the name under which songwriter Danny Moffat produces his own music. Studio recordings “often resemble a collective of musicians with a core four. “They are Moffat: vocals/guitar, Rob Carrington: drums, Roger Maranan: keys/bass, and Ben Bonadies: guitar/bass. They met through connections with the music blog Allston Pudding.

Moffat grew up in Bellingham, Washington State and when he was 23, he moved to New Zealand and played in The Future’s Bright (live guitarist) and Frend (songwriter/singer/guitarist) which resulted in the latter released an EP that was requested to be in the New Zealand National Library.

After a couple of years Moffat reluctantly came back to the US, where he continued playing in bands in Seattle, Portland ( 1 2,) and Brooklyn, before eventually landing in the Boston-area.

Moffat was born with a rare spinal condition called spina bifida, which often manifests in debilitating nerve pain. He is “reminded everyday how much of a gift it is to physically make music,” and that “sense of urgency fuels the drive behind creating The Collect Pond.”
