Ghost Work features members and ex-members of Seaweed, Snapcase, Milemarker, and Minus The Bear. They have announced the release the new 11-track LP Light a Candle for the Lonely for March 8th, 2024 via Spartan Records. The track “Godspeed on the Trail” is out now.
Vocalist Aaron Stauffer says,
What can I say…this is literally my best singing performance and recording I’ve completed EVER since I began home recording. I would put this song up at the same level of some of my Seaweed favorites. It reminds me of The Cure doing an AC/DC cover.
Since Ghost Work is a primarily virtual band, the process of creating Light a Candle For The Lonely involved lots of back-and-forth moving from Individual jams and riffs to sketches, demos, and fleshed out songs. Final drum tracking took place in-person in Husick’s Chicago studio.
Tate shares:
We all had more input on this record. While I was in Chicago recording, Sean and I had a fair amount of time to tweek and re-tweek ideas. When the record felt pretty ‘done’ (as far as the recording), we felt like handing it off for mixing. Getting another head was the right thing to do for the greater good of the project.
Mixing for the record was completed at Warrior Sound in Chapel Hill, NC by Al Jacobs (He Is Legend, A Skylit Drive, Beloved).
At its core, Light a Candle For The Lonely is a “meditation on the stark contrast between the natural beauty of our world and universe and the uncertainty and de-evolution that keeps us from celebrating it.” However, the album also expresses “certain growth” and ”search for the authentic”, paving ground for an “unexpected reawakening.”
